Many people will be aware that the old Suffolk Coastal Council offices have been sold to a developer, subject to satisfactory planning consent being received. The design and layout of the scheme presented in the planning application were approved in principle in October but full approval is subject to details subject to details of affordable housing and parking being approved. The approval was given despite more than 300 letters of objection being sent in to the planning department, including a letter of objection from the RDA. The objections mainly centred on the height, scale and density of the proposed new 100 residential units, and in the case of the RDA’s objection, their effect on the riverscape. Other objections included the demolition of the existing offices and the Victorian buildings fronting Melton Hill, the design of the new buildings and the lack of adequate parking.
