River Deben – River User Survey results

River Deben from the air

The RDA undertook a web-based survey over two months from 26 February to 20 April 2012.  What we wanted to know was how people use the River Deben and what they like about the river and the area immediately around it, or what they would like to see changed.

There were 9 multiple choice questions, with opportunities to add free-text comment, and one open question.

We sent notices inviting people to undertake the survey – accessible through open pages on the RDA website – to 853 RDA members and to … Continue Reading

They are holding 12 public sessions along the East coast of England in February to explain what marine planning is, and what it means to coastal communities. Any individuals, marine groups or networks in the plan area are welcome, and can drop in to make sure their views are heard. From residents who enjoy a walk on the … Continue Reading

The Thin Blue Line – Felixstowe Ferry

Felixstowe Ferry residents have been advised by the Environment Agency’s Gary Warner that the blue line at the leading edge of the concrete wave wall between the Ferry and Clifflands Car Park has been applied to draw attention to the danger posed by the drop onto the beach. This is instead of fencing or signs and felt to be more environmentally acceptable.

November Forum

Another excellent Forum.

Representatives of many Deben-based organisations networked with one another on Saturday 19 November at the second RDA FORUM.

The venue was Woodbridge Cruising Club, where delegates also listened to 19 presentations
from a variety of statutory and voluntary organisations.

Topics ranged from the Deben Estuary Plan to oyster farming on the Deben, from the rock
armour at Felixstowe Ferry to scrub clearance on river walls by the Environment
Agency.  See notes below.

Website news: Autumn open meeting; Waldringfield boatyard – community ownership? Waldringfield pontoon

“The Mystery of the Tides” was the title of a fascinating talk at the RDA’s Autumn Open Meeting, held on Friday 28th October at Walton Community Hall in Felixstowe. Even people who had spent most or all of their lives afloat were given much theoretical knowledge to support their practical observations.
Gerald Jenkins, a writer and publisher of scientific books, took his audience on an illustrated journey across the world and into space as he explained tidal anomalies that have been a mystery to many of us. A series of photographs and diagrams were used to demonstrate the … Continue Reading
